Hello there! I am a Florida native who moved to Savannah, GA to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I received my B.F.A. in graphic design and eagerly began a career at the creative agency B.F.G. Communications. Two years into advertising, still hungry for other artistic avenues, I waved goodbye to B.F.G. and returned to SCAD to study Fibers where I graduated two years later as valedictorian. Immediately upon graduation I was offered the graphic designer position at the school’s product development division, Working Class Studio. I worked diligently on promotional print material, textile design, branding, and many fascinating projects within SCAD, meanwhile developing as a freelance graphic designer and tea towel designer. Like any new embarkment, the time for career transition has come quickly and I am thrilled to begin the Maker Collective. This milestone embodies empowerment, productivity and the ability to manifest my voice as a creative.

Meet The Makers: Benjamin Stanley

Howdy! My name is Benjamin Carl Stanley, and I was born and raised on the sunny shores of Naples, Florida.

In 2004 I moved to Savannah to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I earned a B.F.A. in Illustration. Shortly after graduation, I accepted a position as the school’s Printmaking Studio Technician. After two years of managing the studio facilities I transitioned to my current position with the SCAD Exhibitions department. I work with a very small team to manage and install exhibitions and other projects for the school’s eight galleries and new museum.

In addition to my work as an Exhibition Designer, I have a very active studio practice. My artwork is primarily mixed media works on paper, combining tightly rendered figures and atmospheric landscapes with graphic, often geometric elements. This layered imagery creates a unique environment that cultivates a taste for scientific challenges, maritime exploration and echoes themes of vulnerability, solitude and contemplation. My work has been exhibited extensively here in Savannah, as well as Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, and New York City.

The Maker Collective will allow me to further my studio practice and contribute to the growing artist landscape in Savannah.

Meet The Makers: Elmer Ramos

Hey, I’m Elmer Ramos I have an incredible passion for hand printing goods. I was born in Puerto Rico and moved to the U.S. at the age of 6. I’ve been making marks ever since. I spent most of my years in New Jersey until I then decided to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. I received my B.F.A. in Illustration in 2010 with a minor in Printmaking. Immediately after graduating, the timing was just right, when Ben started his new role with the exhibitions department and I was offered the Printmaking Technician position for SCAD Printmaking, where I managed the printmaking facilities and supervised the work-study students. Since I am always so eager to make something new, I have decided to start my own business titled Hey Elmer, printing limited edition T-shirts and serving as a publisher. My goal is to illustrate and design for the local, national & international community. Starting The Maker Collective is my step towards doing what I love with the goal of working for myself and bringing the beautiful art of printing and craftsmanship to another level. My personal work revolves around secular subjects and spiritual ideas. The maker collective will allow me to push my own studio practices as well as serving as a master printer giving upcoming artists the chance to shine.

The three of us found ourselves in a spot where we wanted to grow out of our garages and spare bedrooms and into a dedicated studio space housing all the necessary equipment to print. A self sustaining studio will pave the way for us to pursue full time careers in art and design. In doing so we aim to enhance the local independent arts community budding in Savannah.
